The article presents a reprint of the article "Just How Smart Are Smart Machines?" by Thomas H. Davenport and Julia Kirby, which appeared in the previous issue of the journal. It highlights the increasing demand of sophisticated cognitive technologies that are capable of reducing human labor. An overview on the levels of intelligence in smart machines such as human support, automation of repetitive task and context awareness and learning, is also emphasized.
