This doctoral thesis aims to investigate the impact of social networks on career and career management, particularly for professionals in multinational firms. This thesis addresses the role of social ties and their impacts on career outcomes. Specifically, it argues that specific network structures and dynamics trigger work opportunities and career advancement. Organised around three individual but complementary research papers, this thesis explores the occupation of certain positions within networks that are assumed to be conducive to career advancement and are of particular interest to professional services firms.
