Sexuality in Marketing and Consumption : Queer Theory, Feminist Research, and Intersectionality / Edited By Athanasia Daskalopoulou, Daniela Pirani, Jacob Ostberg
This edited volume examines the role of sexuality in consumer lives and its relationship with marketing, consumption, and the marketplace. Bringing together perspectives from consumer research, sociology, gender studies, and media studies, contributors explore sexuality through queer, feminist, and intersectional approaches. The book considers how gender, sexuality, religion, health, and overlapping social identities shape consumer experiences and market practices. It also investigates relationships between brands and queerness, sexuality in digital marketing, algorithmic cultures, online dating, sexualised bodies, and technologically mediated intimacy. Combining theoretical perspectives with diverse cultural contexts, the collection challenges conventional approaches to sexuality in marketing scholarship. It provides students and researchers with critical frameworks for understanding the complex interactions between sexuality, identity, society, technology, consumption, and contemporary marketplaces.
