This book deals with the McDonaldization of society that is to say the process by which the principles of the fast-food restaurant are coming to dominate more and more sectors of American society as well as of the rest of the world. It provides evidence of the four basic dimensions of McDonaldization: efficiency, calculability, predictability, and control. Examples show the degree to which McDonaldization has penetrated society and the accelerating rate of that penetration. Finally, it discusses the recent explosive growth of Starbucks and introduces the term "Starbuckization".
