"The results of this research reveal an impactful interplay between Large Language Models and human data professionals. The quantitative survey and qualitative interviews uncovered that tasks involving basic statistical analysis, data cleaning, and data visualization are perceived as most likely to be automated by LLMs. Conversely, roles requiring emotional intelligence, creativity, innovation, and strategic planning remain largely within the human domain. The empirical experiment demonstrated a significant advantage of ChatGPT over humans in data cleaning, data analytics, and data visualization tasks in terms of both efficiency and quality. However, the thematic analysis underscored the irreplaceable value of human insight, creativity, and domain expertise. It highlighted the emerging necessity for data professionals to concentrate on more strategic roles, focusing on prompt engineering, leveraging LLMs, and enhancing their communication and project management skills. The shift towards data democratization is also anticipated in near future."
