Several studies that have been conducted have argued that technology, mainly social media, can
positively impact the outcomes of democracy; however, the possibility of social media promoting
democracy in a cross-section of countries has not yet been empirically investigated. It's worth
noting that the actual evidence on the internet's link with democracy is equally mixed. This is
hardly surprising, given that the internet can be utilized to propel democracy and at the same time
to propel dictatorship. This study investigates the relationship between social media and democracy
in different parts of the world. Evidence showing a strong relationship between Facebook and other
social media sites penetration and democracy has also been presented to support the study.
Furthermore, more research will be undertaken to demonstrate that the link between democracy and
social media is stronger in low-income
nations than in high-income countries.
