We will study the global perspective of food superstore's market before the health crisis of COVID-19 and after COVID-19 to understand how the crisis impacted actors of this market and whether higher leverage helped firms during this crisis. To better understand the resilience of the retail food industry, we will study authors hypothesis on capital structure and try to apply them to two practical cases : two major French groups in the industry. By studying the difference in capital structure and the impact on their competitiveness, we will try to answer if more levered companies are resilient to shocks. In this study, we will be focusing Carrefour and Casino, two firms listed on the Paris Stock Exchange, which have consolidated financial statements for the year 2020 and year 2019 and can be easily compared because of the standard of consolidated financial statements.
