The luxury industry, famous for its unique craftsmanship and high pricing, faces challenges in aligning with the evolving carbon disclosure regulations under EU jurisdiction. With the shift from the Non-Financial Reporting Directive (NFRD) to the Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD), set to take full effect starting from 2024, luxury companies should make efforts to improve the transparency, standardization, and Scope of their carbon emissions reporting. This study examines the evolution of ten leading European luxury firms in disclosing carbon emissions, focusing on Scope 1, 2, and 3 emissions coverage over the past four years (2021-2024). With a customized-scoring model developed to assess transparency, and completeness of their carbon emissions disclosure, the study finds evident variability in the quality of disclosures across the sector. The findings highlight the critical importance of aligning luxury brands' carbon strategies with evolving EU regulations.
