This study explores the integration of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in higher education, focusing on the Spanish most prestigious Business Schools (ESCP Business School, IE Business School, IESE Business School, and ESADE Business School). AI's formal and informal integration into university curricula presents several benefits, such as personalised learning and timesaving, but also raises challenges like ethical concerns and over-reliance on technology. Despite numerous studies on educational technologies and AI in education, there is a gap in comparative analyses of educators' and students' perspectives, especially within the Spanish educational context. This research aims to fill this gap by comparing the different groups’ points of view on AI's benefits and challenges, thus providing valuable insights for policymakers.
Using a mixed methods approach in the framework of an explanatory sequential research design, this study analyses both qualitative and quantitative data from professors and students from renowned business schools in Spain. The research question specifically addresses AI's impact (present and future) on the educational experience, hypothesizing that AI integration improves learning and teaching experiences, while also introducing critical challenges.
Findings highlight the complexity of AI's role in education. It underscores the importance of establishing comprehensive AI training and continuous development to create an adaptive educational environment. Limitations include potential biases in perceptions and the rapidly evolving nature of AI, necessitating ongoing research.
This academic research will be useful to a broad range of groups, including policymakers, who can leverage the findings to implement effective AI policies in educational settings; academic institutions, which can use the insights to understand how to maximize benefits and address challenges identified by the academic community; educators, who can gain a clearer understanding of perceptions of AI in the industry and in the classroom; and students, who can benefit from relevant information about AI tools they may have overlooked.
